Match cylinder action and valve function

The manufacturer distinguishes valves for single-acting and double-acting cylinders as well as different switching and centre positions. Selection depends on the required extend, hold and retract functions.

A model designation with a similar housing says little by itself about behaviour when the motor stops or the valve switches. These characteristics are checked in the data sheet for the specific valve version.

Pump-mounted, remote or in-line

Depending on the version, valves can be mounted directly on the pump, remotely or in the line. Required mounting location, number of connections and operating method determine the suitable design.

A simple manifold does not replace functions such as pressure reduction, flow control or defined sequences. A multi-cylinder system is therefore described in terms of its intended behaviour.

Multiple consumers require system planning

For several connected tools, oil requirements, controllability and interaction must be considered. A sketch of the consumers and intended movement sequence provides a firmer basis for an enquiry than the required number of connections alone.

• Where will the valve be mounted and operated?
• How many consumers must work independently or together?
